What is a Notary?

The Notary sometimes also called “Notary Public”, a legal person appointed by the State to perform legal acts such as witnessing signature, taking oath, signing affirmation and a lot other tasks.

There are four types of Notarial Acts:

1- Acknowledgement

An individual must appear before a notary public.
He/ she must present a satisfactory evidence of identity.
He/ she must affirm that he/she has signed the document voluntarily for the purpose state in the document.

2- Jurat

An individual must appear before a notary public.
He/ she must present a satisfactory evidence of identity.
He/ she must sign the document before the notary public.
He/ she must take an oath before the notary public to affirm the accuracy of the document.

Jurat Form

On this ____________ day of ____________, 20______, before me, the undersigned Notary Public, personally appeared _______________ (name of document signer), proved to me through satisfactory evidence of identification, which were __________________, to be the person who signed the preceding or attached document in my presence, and who swore or affirmed to me that the contents of the document are truthful and accurate to the best of (his) (her) knowledge and belief. __________________ (official signature and seal of Notary)

3- Witness Signature

An individual must appear before a notary public.
He/ she must present a satisfactory evidence of identity.
He/ she must sign the document before the notary public.

4- Copy Certification

An individual must appear before a notary public with a document.
The notary public must copy or supervise the copying process of the presented document.
The notary must ensure the accuracy of the photocopied document.

Notary Services – DC Apostille

Documents must be notarized by a commissioned notary public in the same state where the document was originated. However, DC Apostille may provide its customers with notary services from the MD Circuit Court to save time and effort. Documents destined for legalization service from certain embassies in Washington DC require that the notarization must be conducted by a notary in the State where the document was issued. These embassies are:

Algeria, Brazil, China, Qatar, Pakistan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Yemen, Iran, and Palestine.
